Danganronpa was a huge eye-opener for me. It's a series I love with all my heart. I found the game, as most western fans my age did, on SomethingAwful and Tumblr. I was 18 at the time and it blew my mind. I didn't know you could have games that cool and stylish. I've made so many life-long friends through this series. It inspired me to start sharing my art online. The first fanart I drew on the Aldi/Lidi tablet was Naegi!

I think what got a lot of people into Danganronpa was the size of its cast, and the equal gender split. That's pretty rare, even today.

I was cautious after Rain:Code and DRV3 (I know it's liked now but I can't bring myself to fully love it like Danganronpa and SDR2. Especially not after DR3... I was hurt too much...)

I told myself lower my expectations... wait a bit for reviews to come in... but then I played the demo and I was hooked once more into hope and despair ♡

The 100 Line

Slow clap. How does Kodaka do it? I love being on his roller-coaster ride. It starts off at 60kph and keeps building. I was laughing, shocked, or crying the entire playthrough.

This game was a real love letter to the VNs that came before Danganronpa. All the references, nods and pure love for it all. The story never treated its audience as stupid.

Story

Danganronpa is dead. Long live the 100 Line.

If you enjoyed Danganronpa in any way, shape or form... 100 is the full beast. If you can believe that. It's similar, but different. We have all of Kodaka's usual story beats, familiar character tropes but fully realised and we're going all the way. There's no stops.

It's everything I love about Kodaka to it's extreme.

I couldn't put it down the whole weekend. It keeps you hooked. But there is decent breathing room. You never feel like you're being drowned in information. Sometimes DR could get a little bottom-heavy, especially in chapter 5-but with the 100 days breathing room, there's a lot more time to get a feel for this cast.

What a buncha freaks. I was not let down! Everyone gets there moment to shine, and if you feel "Hey... I wonder more about X" Don't worry. Everyone has a moment.

Art

What's there not to love? Rui Komatsuzaki's art is fantastic and outstanding as always. I've always loved how different it is to anything else. There's been a improvement since Danganronpa, and changes to what's trendy in character design (It took a while for me to be fond of Takumi's F/E red hair)

There's SO MANY SPRITES! I was in shock every time a new one appeared. You can feel the time and love put into them.

The Moko sprites... When Komatsuzaki's art goes there... The horror is perfect!!

Combat

Genuinely shocked the combat sections were so enjoyable! I don't enjoy strategy games, esp one with a large cast that have lots of different attacks you have to keep track of.

Wow. What a PROLOGUE!!!

There's so much i wanna gush about. What a FANTASTIC opening! I was got good. The whole time I was waiting for the shoe to drop, wondering how it was gonna wrap up, were these 100 endings true? Could peak be possible? Oh, I got what I wanted and more! What a love letter to VNs!!!

THE SUDDEN STEALTH SECTION... AND IT WAS GOOD??? My heart was racing so much. I've never felt that sort of fear in a game. I was got good. I wonder how many people yelped at that part... Ugh.. So good!!

IMA AND KOKO!! My heart! I liked Koko from the start, and I was weary of Ima... but their story and growth... My heart!! My poor heart!!

SHOUMAAAAAAA!! Wow. I was reminded of Chihiro and Mondo seeing Shouma and Takemaru together. This was such a perfect scene, and I had wondered if Kodaka approached these sort of characters again, would he do it differently? And I was pleasantly surprised when this story beat came along. I... have never cried and laughed so much. The climax to that story is fantastic.

Nozomi... not only is she cucking Takimu... but she is in some weird poly lesbo situationship and for that, i stan. SHE'S.. SO CUTE... I LOVE HER...

THEY GOT MY GIRL HIRUKO GOOD... I was heartbroken- but expect yuri of her and Darumi.

Waiting for the Eito turnabout... so worth it! I'll never trust a Kodaka white-haired anime boy. Throughout my first run, I was SUSPICIOUS of this BOY. I YELLED at my screen constantly "don't do it!!" especially towards the end. HE KILLED A BABY!!! He's so horrible! He's amazing! The CG where he's under the bed... Komeda could never! I can see him being the most popular. And he should be! Seeing this character from Kodaka... it brings a tear to your eye. It's inspiring! Let's make more freaks!

That final walkie talkie scene... OH!! Takimu!!!

I might have to call it. this has taken my heart, near to Danganronpa. I started my next run, and yes, I did kill Eito >:3 the bastard!
