Irish films

I'm getting stuck into my upcoming vn trophies again; and what's important to me, more than anything... is my characters and stories are undeniably Irish. Whether that's through there names, how they speak, how they act... You will know about Dublin.

I always end up disappointed when I play a game, read a book or comic... and there's nothing about a world or culture in it's setting. The characters are all perfectly International. It's very clean. Very... marketing friendly. It could be anywhere. Anywhere but where you are. When I read stories from an artist, tell me about what PART of the world you're from! What are the people like? What are the little things only you would know? What makes it so uniquely there and no where else? Why do you love it? Why do you hate it?

I wanted to share some of my favourite Irish films... give em a go!! I feel they get overlooked, but there's so much charm and love and history here...

The Snapper

What more can I say?? One of the greats, needs to be better known.

The Magdalene Sisters

• 2002

This is a must see if you want to understand the abuse and horror women were subjected to in these laundries. Forced to slave away and give up their personhood, considered a shame on their families... It's a hard watch, but beautifully done. Watch here on Archive.org

What happens when a Yank buys the field you've toiled on your whole life? Amazing, burning drama. Can't be beat.

SUCH A SWEET MOVIE...! a coming-of-age between two oddball boys finding friendship with each other and standing up for themselves. It's not a romance, but it's tooth rotteningly good. It's up on Netflix + Disney+ for now, but I trust you can find alternatives ^.^

Site updates...

Fixing my gallery... It's gonna take a good bit to get set up and reorganized ;w; But I prefer it now! I did try a js lightbox again, but tbh.. I think I just like what I have now. It's gonna be main gallery page with clickable thumbnails that bring you to new page for sketch posts. Very happy! It's gonna make them sooo easy to l.ink to ^w^

Now I have a thumbnail system set up so I can go back to cross-posting on tumblr. Will they kill me if I post NSFW? It's such a TERF haven now. Well, it always has been (outside of lolita 4chan boards). I think a lot of people don't wanna remember the riot grrrrl era was when a lot of girls got indoctrinated into some hardcore radfem beliefs... Those terfs knew how to target a lot of hurt and vulnerable young people :(

I don't know how tumblr's lasted this long... It's changed so much from when I was an active user. I left 2015 (for twitter LOL). People forget, but the site basically died when tumblr changed how tags could be searched. It's unusable now. A lot of the sex-positive, trans + queer writers were gone a long time before 2018. Everyone else was flying under the radar. So it kinda shocks me when people cite the porn ban as their first kick in the teeth when it comes to sites TOS changed on them. I've said before, but I was there for LJ ban, and dA's slow, painful death...

The internet has changed so much, and not at all. Before tumblr, lj was the place where a lot of queer people, kinky people were talking. And they were hit before the fanfic ban. Maybe I'm too old and jaded... but I do wonder what's next, now that bsky added the nuke furry button to their tos. Let's try and stay connected through it all lads.
