randomly found this while looking at other lesbian history books and i was hoping the title was just an attention grabber. sadly, it's a very reactionary look at how lesbian spaces have changed. i was hoping more for a look at how transmisogyny had been the death kneel to these women only music festivals. there's some good parts (the firsthand accounts) but the authors tone makes it a difficult read.
read twilight girls and odd lovers instead-i think it gives a much more rounder view and how much infighting lesbians have always been doing lol.

didn't hold my attention. i did like how the author fictionalised the logline snippets she got. i think this would go down better with a reader from the uk.
i don't watch a lot of tv or movies much any more due to (gestures at animation industry). but animation holds such a love in my heart, I can never stay away. it's a beautiful medium with expert draftspeople who work on hard. and what i love the most? bad animation.

Aladdin: The Animated Series
A must watch to see what you could get away with in the 90s. Fetish fuel and a lack of hypnosis. Sad to see how far animation has fallen.

i play a lot of VNs. i'm trying to branch out, but i have a messed up shoulder so it makes playing a lot of games difficult (looks at mouthwashing's sudden shooter mechanic o)-( )

i talk industry
Around the halfway point of this podcast, they speak on "detachment" to your work, and having to battle with the "cog in the machine" realisation as a professional industry-working artist.
I worked 7 years in animation. I am very lucky. I do not have a horror story as bad as some of my peers. But it was killing me, even as I attempted to ignore it. The way animation is structured: they work you to the bone, men get off so painfully easy it's laughable, and there is no loyalty whatsoever. The second they find a slightly talented college student, or someone desperate for work who will work for pennies... The infighting, the egos, the bullying... Yes, all over cartoons.
I figured out I'm a lone wolf, no matter how hard I tried to fit in.
I enjoyed my work, but the detachment from your coworkers and "management" (esp working with US studios) took a toll on my mental health. People barely remember to treat you like a person. The ones who do are a shining light in the industry, and I'm very thankful to call them friends and have learned so much from them.
I feel a little sappy listening to these two, and it's nice to hear these struggles being felt around by so many. A lot of time freelance and creative work has you alone, thinking you're the only one, and you have to fit into this mold. But you don't. It's extremely difficult out there at the moment (and as of writing, I have no idea how the tariffs will effect the animation industry, since most money comes from US production houses and then outsourced to studios in Ire/India/Korea).
bsky post about diy/self-production for merch - i really enjoyed this post. i've been looking into self-production over outsourcing but a lot of the time you have to wade through cope. good breakdown of costs, informative and has good ideas on how to recycle :3
