July Update
2025 July 14 // 2025, updateselling comics, dine-n-dashing and going first class...
I'll always be a 17 year old party girl at heart.
What a month, where does the time go...? to get started: I went to a concert by myself! Which I've done before, but this time I travelled up to Belfast. I was surprised how chill I was about it... I'm such a hermit sometimes... I forgot about how deep inside my soul, I'm a party girl. Take the girl out of the bank, can't take the bankie out of the girl.
I got to meet up with friends and had a blast! Charli XCX was ELECTRIC!! so, so sooo cool!!! I don't know how much wine i drank, or what substances i was on... but those photos... will never see the light of day LOL
I was planning to have a quick catch up with friends, but of course.... chattering away as i do...i missed my train. did you know irish trains leave two minutes early from n ireland? ( : i didn't. And in my panic to book the next train... I booked first class. I didn't even notice! The only thing i was thinking of was how I left my poor friends with the bill when i zipped off! thank god for banking apps... oh my god, I used to work as a waitress and the amount of dine-n-dashing i had to deal with and PAY FOR!! now it's ME!!!! I'VE BECOME THE VILLAIN!!!
I'd say they got a good laugh outta me in my party gear, clearly beyond hungover stumbling into first class. They were like "becky? idk? you're not on the list..." and i was like. sure okay whatever. throw me in the trunk. LOL.
Can't wait for the next one.
CitrusCon
I attended citruscon this year! I had seen it around the year before, and knew a friend of mine was selling at their artists alley. So I signed up sometime earlier in the year, and completely forgot about it lol. Luckily, they send out emails with the discord invite and I thought "sure I'll check it out, ive nothing better to do... but how are cons held on discord...?"
It's the most fun i've had at a con, ever.
The talks I attended were all well planned and fun to listen to. they had a load of interesting topics in regards to fandom, fic and the indieweb! also a lot of mpreg this year??? LOL it was such a lovely environment. online is cruel to the fujo... it's nice to have a space that you know people are chill and cool and know you can squee about your otps and abuse ukes.
I got to chat to a LOAD of indieweb people I admire! thank you all so much for the good chats and the resources. There was also a hndr chat, so it was fun getting to geek out with people who were SO NICE... ;w; it reminded me of when I was a teenager on tumblr, just having fun and being silly over danganronpa... Am I still that girl at heart?
I already booked my ticket for the 2026 event! ^w^ I highly recommend going if youre any way into fandom or shipping!
art
I turned into an art machine??? thanks to hndr??? am i turning back into 18 yr old becky????
I made short 5pg f!eitotaku comic to practise my values. ive havent been happy with my black + white work, so i limited my palette and im happy i did. i'm trying to get better at cataloguing my work, and taking the time to appreciate that i finished something. in the rush to get things done, it's hard to remember to celebrate when you finish a piece.
from now on, im planning to upload on this site first, then post to my socials. you can follow rss. if you're looking for a mobile opensource rss reader, i highly recommend feeder! (only for android)
Selling a porno
My pornography...
I was at DCAF for their July show on the 13th. I sold copies of Second Shift there! EEK! I WAS SO SCARLET... I dont think I let it show but having friends be so you made a porno becky is an Experience. Sorry I didn't tell yous! I was embarrassed... It's been a while since I've done an irl con, i wanna get better at them. I'd love to do some in the eu! But I'd have to do my research and really pull myself together...!! I really enjoy awkward conversations with people. It makes me laugh.
I also made two new zines for the show: one for nuis and the other about making a website!
I get into the numbers below. DCAF is a very small con, but recently it moved locations so theres a huge increase in foot traffic. You usually just break even.
number crunch
I posted Second Shift as a PDF/ePUB on itchio in May 2025 so I could raise money to print it. I charged 8$. Why dollars, you ask? Most of my followers are American. There's a lot of tax stuff and honestly... American tax stuff scares me. AND... I don't know what's currently happening with tariffs and how they'd affect me. I played it safe and let itchio handle the tax stuff (and cashback). I do regret this and wish I looked a little harder for the currency option on itchio. But, if I did that, there's VAT to think about.... So! I made it 8$ so I could:
- a least get some cash when converted/itchio takes the fee
- had the ability in future to discount the comic
- sell your comics for more than 5 bucks please for the love of god.
Second Shift did really well. I didn't expect anyone to buy it, honestly. I'm not active in the irish scene. I don't have an insta, twitter or tiktok. I did bring old fanart prints (JJBA and dangan) as a backup because DCAF has a LOT of teenagers with itabags who come visit. it's not that sort of con, but it's good to have the old reliables.
I printed 15 comics of Second Shift, and 10 of each zine. At the time; I'd raised $125.58 on itchio, and with converting/itchios take - I got around €106.51. Printing cost €103.97 (minus vat + delivery). Yippee! Thank you so much again to everyone who bought Second Shift!! I'm very, very lucky there's a printer here that allows NSFW.
If I reprint Second Shift, I'm going to have to make it lighter. It's sliiiightly too dark for my tastes. You win you lose!
Okay back to DCAF. It's a 7 hour shift, and I made €218.60 total. That's including what I bought/money spent on food after. Not bad! I don't expect to make big numbers at DCAF, but I'm very happy with the system I have in place now.
Creating Second Shift taught me... I MUCH prefer making comics than prints. I don't think of myself as an illustrator, it's not my thing. I much prefer making comics... I think in future I'll stick to black+white comics, see what other paper the printer has on offer because the option I chose is very... glossy... like for leaflets LOL. I want a more lightweight paper, but then you have to worry about bleed... there's too much to think about with physical!!! I was raised an animator!!!
Im happy I listened to my friend's advice of keeping it to only paper products and keeping a low amount... it's easy to get fomo when seeing all the vograce stuff and those big wire grid yokes people have. but i dont WANT that! i think thats ANNOYING!!! but when you see people have them it's like... wait... hold up.... am i... should i...?
If you haven't read second shift... You can buy it here!
and of course, the treat after such a long day:
it's lush, as they say... I had a lovely chat with my friends! nothing better to bet the heat with. did i mention dcaf took place on the HOTTEST DAY OF THE YEAR???? i survived dcaf 2025....
gamedev
WE'RE BACK.... TROPHIES IS BACK....!
I have been writing like a mad woman... Hndr line has been inspiring... reminding me of what makes my work good is my own pov. people like what i write because i write it. and the insane murder girls. i was getting SO down on myself because "i'm writing the same thing? why do i write the same thing? why can't i write (thing i don't like writing)?!" BECAUSE IT'S FUN, BECKY!!! that's why!!!
saying it to spook myself... aiming for a october release... ARGH!! GAMEDEV!!!!!
Whew! What an update! let's keep doing our best and creating what we love o7
