Fanficisms

I was looking into if you could still hook up an AO3 RSS to a tumblr blog for fic updates... Sadly you cannot... You might be able to do this on a site, though? But you can just use an rss reader to keep up with your fics!

I think I've said before either on socmedia or on this blog, but I'm making the attempt to comment on everything I kudos on Ao3. Once you start leaving comments, it's so addictive.

Now that I'm back on an Ao3 tag that regularly updates (thank you hndr line writers you're the best), I'd... forgotten... how bad... it is out there... for the poor fanfic writer.

PEOPLE... DRIVE-BYS... ON MY COMMENTS... omfg do the kids not know you're not supposed to shit talk the author in the comments?? You're supposed to be NICE??? I was so appalled!! I know it's a teenager thing, but sometimes I read comments on art or fic and I'm gobsmacked. you... you know... you're being rude... right... It makes me cringe out so badly when I think of teenage me speaking in memes thinking I was being soooo cool but now I'm 30 I'm (white woman voice) WHAT IS ANYONE EVEN SAYING ANYMORE... WHAT HAPPENED TO A HELLO HOW ARE YOU???

I've had to check messages with my zoomer friends because I can't translate anymore. On one hand, oh no I'm old, on the other... ahh... this is why adults think teenagers are rude... Ah... life is so funny... A forever loop of the simpsons meme....

I say teens here, but I've had some shocking interactions with the oldheads. I can never read the room so I'll toss fics or fanart into a server and when I'm hit with the wall of nasty comments on the writing/art style/ship I'm like OH. OH... ?? Then you do it better? And they can't. I find it crazy that strangers will start spewing the nastiest things about fanfic writers or other artists when they think I'm a friend. Absolutely not on my watch. I've even seen on priv accs back on twitter people qrting artists they don't like and say the meanest things. A lot of the times it's thankfully away from any professional space but... people... need... diaries... A lot of people think what they say online is private. Let me tell you now, it's not and it never will be.

Honestly if you ever take any of my advice, here's the most important: never join a discord server that has a vent, and bitching does not make you friends.

The whole thing reminded me why I stay out of main fandom spaces now. I'll draw my fanart in peace, thank you very much. Fandom's not that serious, until someone ruins it for the rest of us.
